tampa social media companyAs Pinterest is becoming increasingly popular with consumers and brand alike, we would like to share some tips on how brands should approach this social media platform.

  1. Although repinning popular pins on Pinterest is a great way to engage potential consumers and have unique content on your boards, be sure that you are also uploading pins from your own site. You want to increase brand awareness and show off what you are selling or what kind of services you provide!
  2. Pinterest is all about the pictures, sort of. To get the most of your pinning efforts be sure that your caption is optimized as well as your boards. This helps the search engines find relevant content and don’t you want your pins and boards to show up on the SERPs?
  3. Now back to the point about pictures. Ideally, you should be uploading a high quality, large image. Make sure you size your images before uploading to get the best visual display. Set your image width to 735 pixels for the ideal pin. And make sure that you add a link back to your site where the image lives. No one wants to click on a pin to be taken to the homepage or just a bigger picture of the image. Make it easy for consumers to find what they are looking for and send them to a direct link.
  4. Stay relevant. And I mean this in two ways. Stay relevant to your brand and stay relevant to what is going on right now. If the big new trend is Gluten Free and you are a restaurant, maybe you want to pin some of your gluten free menu options. Or if a holiday is coming up, you may want to create a board specific to that. For example, 4th of July…if you sell red, white and blue products (clothes, furniture, anything!), make a board and pin to it a month or a few weeks before the holiday so people will see your pins and might buy something!
  5. Feel free to use hashtags sparingly. Don’t hashtag every single word, but the ones that you think people will be searching for and will get you the consumers you want to target.
  6. When repinning, you may want to change the caption. Make it sound like your brand’s voice. Keep it simple but relevant to the brand. And always check the the links that the pins are pointing to. Make sure it isn’t spammy or a competitor! Make sure repins are fun, useful and relevant. Stay away from things that are political, religious, use bad language, etc. You are representing a brand and don’t want to push consumers away if they disagree with something that is posted.

Happy Pinning! And if you have other tips to share, please do!
